After more than a century on the Portland peninsula, Springer’s Jewelers is entering a new chapter in the heart of the Old Port. The family-owned jeweler has announced plans to relocate its Portland store from Congress Street to 455 Fore Street, where a new flagship location is expected to open in Spring 2027.
The move marks a major milestone for the company and reflects a continued investment in downtown Portland’s vibrant retail and hospitality community. Rather than moving toward a traditional shopping center model, Springer’s is reaffirming its commitment to the city’s urban core — a decision rooted in both history and vision for the future.
Leading the project is fourth-generation CEO Lilly Mullen, the first woman to lead the company since its founding in 1870. Under her leadership, the new Fore Street location will become Springer’s flagship store, blending the brand’s historic legacy with a more modern luxury experience inspired by Maine’s design heritage and coastal character.
“This is a long-term investment in the Old Port,” said Mullen. “We are building on the strength of the businesses that define this neighborhood while evolving how we deliver a luxury experience in Maine.”
The new space at 455 Fore Street is designed to honor Springer’s longstanding roots while creating an updated environment that reflects the next generation of the business. The store will continue the company’s deep connection to Portland while positioning it alongside the independent businesses and cultural energy that make the Old Port one of New England’s most iconic downtown districts.
Founded in 1870, Springer’s Jewelers remains one of the country’s longest-operating family-owned jewelers, with additional locations in Bath and Portsmouth. The move to Fore Street represents both a continuation of that legacy and a bold step forward for the future of luxury retail in Portland.
