Our Rolex History

Springer's Jewelers takes pride in being the longest-running jewelry store in Maine and one of the oldest fine jewelers in the United States. Established in 1870 by George T. Springer in Saccarappa (now Westbrook, Maine), Springer's started off offering a wide range of optical goods, stationery, and artists' materials, "fancy goods," and of course, fine jewelry.

SPRINGER'S LEGACY OF LUXURY

By the turn of the century, Springer's had moved from Saccarappa to 515 Congress in downtown Portland, and in 1925, Edmond Beaulieu Sr. acquired the store, and the Beaulieu family legacy began. In 1947, after serving in the Merchant Marines, Ed Beaulieu Jr. joined his father in the business, and they moved Springer's down the street to 580 Congress. It is there, where the Beaulieu family narrowed Springer's focus to luxury jewelry and timepieces, and Springer's Jewelers has sparkled in that same downtown Portland location, ever since.

SPRINGER'S EXPANDS TO THE SEACOAST

Shortly after Ed's son, Rick Beaulieu, joined the family business in 1974, Springer's Jewelers purchased their original Portsmouth location from the widow of Herman Page, who had been one of the first certified gemologists in New England. Then, in 1975, with a celebrated reputation as a trusted family jeweler carrying the finest designers and brands, Springer's became an Official Rolex Jeweler in both their Portland and Portsmouth locations. As an authorized jeweler of Rolex, Springer's takes immense pride in offering the finest selection of these exquisite timepieces, renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, precision, and timeless allure.

SPRINGER’S STANDS THE TEST OF TIME

Nearly 30 years later, Springer's Portsmouth relocated in 2000 to 100 Market, an upscale, five-story building on the corner of Market and Hanover Street in the heart of historic downtown Portsmouth. Over the years, Springer's has expanded its presence in the premier building, and in 2023, under the leadership of Lilly Beaulieu Mullen, Rick's daughter and Springer's President and fourth-generation Owner, Springer's Portsmouth was renovated with a state-of-the-art Rolex showroom and watchmaking facility.
