Joanne & Chris Tolford
Our Story
In the 1950’s, Chris’ grandfather came to Springer’s Jewelers with three loose diamonds he had inherited from an old friend. The diamonds were estimated to be from the early 1900’s. Springer’s custom designed a stunning three-stone engagement ring for Chris’ grandmother. Chris later inherited this ring.
After falling in love with his college sweetheart, Joanne, Chris knew he wanted to incorporate his family gems into a unique and meaningful engagement ring for Joanne. With the help of Springer’s, Chris’ grandmother’s three-stone ring was modernized and custom-designed with Joanne in mind.
In April 2010, Chris proposed to Joanne with a one Carat antique diamond ring flanked by .75 carats of new diamonds on a platinum band.
When it came time to select their wedding bands, the couple knew they wanted to incorporate mixed metals for a uniquely ”them” look. Chris sports a 7 mm wide Scott Kay Cobalt band with a 14 karat rose gold band circling the center. The ring design mirrors Joanne’s two-band wedding rings that beautifully sit on either side of her custom engagement ring. The first is a Platinum and diamond ring with .82 carats total weight and a 14 karat rose gold diamond eternity band.
The happy couple married in August 2011 at a sculpture park and museum. They currently reside in Portland, ME.
